CMHA’s used clothing store has been serving the community at large since 1966. Your donation of gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing supports the services that we offer in the Vernon community. The “business” is also an invaluable training centre for those wishing to re-enter the workplace in retail. We have 30 volunteers who dedicate over 500 hours a month running the Georgette Shop. Come down, see all of the details, shop for the entire family, and support CMHA!
We’re not just any used clothing store…our volunteers put EVERYTHING to good use. First volunteers sort clothing into saleable and non-saleable articles. The saleable clothes are prepared and priced for sale in the Shop. Unsold clothing is recycled and resold. Non-saleable clothing is used to the fullest. Our volunteers sew buttons from clothing onto cards for sale. Large articles are cut up into rags, which are then sold to local businesses such as painters or mechanics. Jeans and other suitable materials are cut into pieces for volunteers to make into quilts to sell. All profits received are targeted to provide programming, education, and services to the Vernon Community.
