Status: 35 hours/week. Duration TBD (typically 8 weeks)

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Vernon & District Branch, which is part of a provincial and national organization, is a non-profit organization focused on promoting mental wellness in the community of Vernon and surrounding areas in the North Okanagan. JOB SUMMARY
The Adult Integrated Program Assistant will work with the Manager to assist participants living with mental health concerns that currently access CMHA services. This position will assist in a variety of projects such as: planning and implementing social and recreational programs for participants who range in age from young adults to seniors, assist with the enhancements of Wellness Education programs for both participants and family members, assist and provide support to our team of peer support volunteers as needed, and assist the Kitchen/nutrition and Georgette thrift store teams with daily operations by providing support to volunteers with lived mental health experience. The focus of this position will be on activation, exercise, community integration and education to help program participants improve their overall mental and physical health by reducing isolation and increasing social and peer connections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Assist with the planning and implementation of social and recreational programs such as: community gardening, the promotion of healthy eating and cooking groups, yoga, meditation, hiking, swimming and other creative pursuits.
- Plan and implement social and recreation programs specifically focused on the participation of a younger adult population.
- Assist in the planning and participating in special events such as overnight camping and the annual Awakening the Spirit Art Show and Sale
- Assist program coordinator with our Food-o-nomics program.
- Assist the Wellness Education with the enhancement of the current education materials by assisting with research and updating curriculum and presentations as needed.
- Provide support to the Georgette thrift store Coordinators by assisting participants with tasks such as pricing, sorting donations, operating the till, and updating the store volunteer manual.
- Providing administrative support with tasks such as entering statistical information, creating spreadsheets and information posters.
- Preforms other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training & Experience
- Must be between 19-30 years of age
- Pursuing or completed post-secondary education in the social services field.
- Knowledge of mental illness and an interest in the mental health field
- Must have the mental and physical abilities to perform required duties
- Must have a valid BC Driver’s license and clear drivers abstract
Skills & Abilities
- Must have computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Must be able to organize and work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
