Local Smoke burned up the stage at Record City last Saturday night, playing to a packed house to raise funds for local mental health.

The event raised $685 from ticket sales and audience donations to support mental health programs offered by Canadian Mental Health Association – Vernon & District Branch.

“We wanted to support an organization that helps people in the community,” said Local Smoke guitarist Rod Wark.

Lawyers by day, rockers by night, the six-piece ensemble hailing from Argenta, Vernon and the Mabel Lake Valley, draws inspiration from the lives they live and the landscape around them.  Blending electric and acoustic guitars, keyboard, bass and drums with vocals from all members of the band, Local Smoke creates a unique sound all their own.

“Sharing our music with an enthusiastic crowd is such a great experience. Being able to help the community while doing what we love makes it even better,” said Wark.

“Music and socialization are such important aspects in enhancing mood and in developing and maintaining mental health and wellness,” said Julia Payson, Executive Director, CMHA Vernon & District Branch.
