Meaningful connections and strengthening mental health will be the focus as North Okanagan residents gather for National Mental Health Week.
The Canadian Mental Health Association Vernon & District will host two special events during the week, and the public is welcome to attend.
“The theme for Mental Health Week is, ‘Stronger Connections. Better Mental Health.’ It’s an important reminder that connecting with those around us is vital to our overall mental wellbeing,” said Julia Payson, CMHA Vernon executive director.
“Whether it’s reaching out to a friend, saying hello to a stranger or attending our events, connecting with people increases self-worth and resiliency while letting others know they matter.”
The two events are:
- On May 7, the annual Block Party runs from 12 to 2 p.m. in front of the Museum & Archives of Vernon. The Block Party includes booths highlighting local organizations. Hamburgers will be available by donation, and The Shades will provide live music. Everyone is invited.
- On May 9, CMHA Vernon will hold a barbecue at the Real Canadian Superstore from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds will support Foundry North Okanagan.
National Mental Health Week runs from May 4 to 10 and aligns with a significant period of growth for CMHA Vernon & District. Construction begins soon on Foundry North Okanagan, and the organization is preparing to launch the public phase of its capital fundraising campaign. Foundry will provide integrated health and wellness services for youth ages 12 to 24, strengthening connections and ensuring young people in the North Okanagan can access timely, coordinated support close to home.
