Local businesses and artists are joining together to present ‘The Jungle’ Art Exhibit for Mental Health, a community fundraiser for youth programs at Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Vernon & District Branch.

Vernon artist Carley Kitagawa is organizing the event, taking place at The Fig Bistro in Vernon on January 30. The date also marks the annual Bell Let’s Talk Day, encouraging Canadians across the country to share stories about mental health to create awareness and reduce stigma.

“Every opportunity to talk about mental health, to share our experiences of wherever we are at on the mental health spectrum brings us closer together as a community and helps each of us on our mental health journey,” said Alyssa Christmas, Manager of Mental Health Promotion and Education for CMHA Vernon & District. “This event demonstrates the dedicated support of the North Okanagan community while showcasing the artistic talents of our community members.”

‘The Jungle’ theme is based on an art piece Kitagawa created while visiting Costa Rica. “It is one of my favourite pieces,” she said. “Sometimes with mental health issues, it can feel like you are in a jungle. So this is symbolic and a connection to mental health and a way to give back.”

“This event is very near and dear to our hearts,” said David Scarlatescu, who owns The Fig Bistro with his mother Beatrice Weir. “We are excited to donate half the proceeds to CMHA Vernon. We hope as many people can join us for a good cause.”

Guests will enjoy an amazing evening of delicious eats from The Fig Catering, an incredible selection of wines from Intrigue Wines, soothing live entertainment from local musician Kailee McGuire, table decor by The Room Collection and gorgeous paintings for sale by Kitagawa.
CMHA Board member Tom Christensen will be speaking at the event.
Tickets are $20 each, with 50% of proceeds supporting youth mental health programs at CMHA Vernon & District.

The community is invited to take part in this amazing evening while supporting an amazing cause.
