Wellness Volunteer Opportunities:

Are you looking to boost your mental health with an opportunity to take part in a meaningful volunteer opportunity? Studies show that regular volunteer activity can have a positive effect on mental and physical health. Volunteering with CMHA Vernon provides the opportunity to build valuable work related skills, learn more about mental health, meet new people, decrease feelings of isolation and add more positive structure into your life all while doing something great for your community!

Retail Training/The Georgette Thrift Shop

The goal of our Retail Training Program is to provide our volunteers with the opportunity to gain experience and training in the world of retail sales and customer service.  This is achieved through The Georgette Shop (CMHA thrift store) that has been serving the Vernon community since 1966 and provides individuals the opportunity to develop these skills. All proceeds from the sale of clothing supports CMHA’s programs and services. Volunteers in this program gain valuable experience and skills within a retail store environment.

Nutrition Program & Coffee Room

This program offers training in meal preparation, food safe standards and small catering services. Volunteers help serve a well-balanced daily lunch and help contribute to menu planning, grocery shopping, preparing and serving meals, clean-up, sanitation and baking for catering needs. Volunteers also manage the coffee center where participants can buy fresh, hot coffee.

Clerical

This volunteer program helps individuals develop and practice basic office skills.  Duties include answering a multi-line phone, assisting with walk-in queries from the general public, notifying staff of appointments, and the use of basic office equipment, such as faxing and photocopying.

Janitorial Program

This program provides basic training in janitorial related tasks.  Volunteers help maintain the CMHA building and develop the skills to move onto employment in the community.
