Ride Don’t Hide is an annual community bike ride which raises funds to support local youth and families, while promoting important aspects of mental health including physical activity, social connection and awareness of community supports.
We believe in empowering individuals, groups, and communities in self-determination to enhance their mental health. CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.
Each year, 1.6 million Canadians report unmet mental health care needs, and the demand for services has and will continue to increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The mental health effects, including anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and substance use, will last long after the pandemic has subsided.
CMHA Vernon actively works to promote mentally healthy people in a healthy society. CMHA Vernon offers a variety of programs and services to the Vernon community, from work experience to supported pre-employment programs such as preparing and serving food to working in a clothing retail environment. Education and support sessions allow participants to learn life skills, wellness management and raise awareness of mental illness. A range of socialization and recreation programs further support wellness. CMHA Vernon’s diverse housing program includes residential facilities to subsidized housing.
Your Support Changes and Saves Lives!
Your gift is so incredibly important in helping reach a community desperately needing support. Every day we see how powerful it is for individuals who have been marginalized throughout their lives to become part of a strong, resilient, supportive community. Because of your contribution, we are able to continue changing and saving lives of people with lived experiences of mental illness, as well as families and friends who assist them.
After a year plus of pandemic, so many are burnt out and exhausted. We faced third waves and variants, vaccination wait times, ongoing economic insecurity. The last thing most people wanted was one more thing to add to the to do list.
We didn’t know what to expect, to be honest. But you blew us away. Ride Don’t Hide 2021 saw unprecedented levels of support. Your commitment to ride and not hide, your commitment to ride your way for your own mental health, your commitment to raise funds in your own community to ensure that no one has to ride alone—you are beyond inspirational. We want you to know how deeply we appreciate your stand on mental health and your participation in Ride Don’t Hide.
YOU have raised $19,670. A huge thank you to all our participants, teams, and supporters for raising funds for such a meaningful cause in the community.
